BWB organized the first Competition Talk on 23 rd of October

On 23rd of October the first Competition Talk was launched by the Austrian Federal Competition Authority. The Lunch Debate Event will take place every second month dealing with burning topics in competition matters. Director General Theodor Thanner said that the debates are meant to attract companys management in order to raise awareness of competition offenses.

The first Competition Talk dealt with an amendment of the competition law, which is at the moment being reviewed at the Austrian Parliament. Michael Losch, Head of Department in the Ministry of Economy presented the most important planned changes of the cartel law. He put emphasis on the enhancement of collective dominance, reversal of evidence for undertakings with market power, the ending of bagatelle-cartels and the strengthening of the powers of the Austrian Competition Authority. Peter Matousek, Deputy Director General of the Austrian Competition Authority, explained in more detail the new competences of the authority, like the introduction of enforceable requests for information and the introduction of to seal premises during a dawn raid.
