Austrian Federal Competition Authority

The Austrian Federal Competition Authority (AFCA) was established under the Austrian Competition Act as an independent and autonomous authority at the Austrian Federal Ministry Economy, Energy and Tourism on July 1, 2002. The AFCA conducts investigations into possible violations of antitrust law and European competition law.

The AFCA is managed by its Director General or the Head of the Competition Directorate acting as deputy.

Its employees are bound solely by the directives of the Director General or, in the event of a deputising arrangement, the Director General’s deputy.
