His tasks will include coordinating the efforts of and representing the Austrian Federal Competition Authority (AFCA) in the area of cooperation and collaboration with other competition authorities and international organisations (OECD, ICN, UNCTAD, World Bank and others).
International cooperation to combat anti-competitive practices has become increasingly important in recent years, not least due to internationally active digital platforms and eco systems. Lukas Cavada has been with the AFCA since early 2019. He was seconded to the OECD Competition Division for several months, and previously also worked at a corporate law firm. He studied law in Vienna and London and is currently undertaking postgraduate studies at the European University Institute in Florence. He regularly publishes and lectures on competition law in Austria and abroad.
“For a small jurisdiction like ours, it is even more important to work together across borders to enforce competition law. Cartels and market abuse do not stop at borders. We are delighted to have Lukas Cavada to help us strengthen our efforts in this regard,” commented Director General Natalie Harsdorf.
