Johannes Lukas becomes Specialist Coordinator for Economic Case Analysis in Case Department A, Nora Schindler takes on the role of Specialist Coordinator for Economic Procedural Management in Case Department B and Anton Hartl in the Litigation Department will now be in charge of Economic Procedural Management. The specialist coordinators all have extensive experience in industrial economics and will commence their new roles on 1 June. They will assume the role of coordinating advisers in all matters related to economic case analysis in their respective departments.
Johannes Lukas has worked for the AFCA as an economist since November 2021. Previously he was a Teaching and Research Associate at the Department of Economics, Johannes Kepler University Linz. He still lectures there now, having taken the lead on one of the university’s courses. He graduated with a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Graz. His main responsibilities at the AFCA are merger control and conducting sector inquiries (fuel market in 2022, food industry in 2023).
Nora Schindler has studied economics at LMU Munich and the Vienna University of Economics and Business, with stints abroad at the University of Helsinki and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her area of specialisation is empirical industrial economics. She has been with the AFCA since 2022, adding her own expertise to the team of economists. She also continues to teach micro and macroeconomics at various universities and gives talks on topics related to industrial and competition economics.
Anton Hartl has worked for the AFCA since 2017. His area of expertise is the assessment of mergers in terms of competition economics and market abuse. He has also been assigned to the Litigation Department since 2018, supporting procedures before the Cartel Court with his knowledge of competition economics. Before joining the AFCA, Anton Hartl worked as a university assistant at the Institute of Economic Theory and Quantitative Economic Research at JKU in Linz. His doctoral thesis tackled the issue of competition and the environmental impact in economic models of international trade.
“Economic expertise and analysis are essential for the AFCA to fulfil its remit successfully, and the new specialist coordinator roles reflect this importance. I am extremely glad that we have managed to enlarge our knowledge in the field of economics during the past few years with a number of outstanding experts joining us,“ explains Director General Natalie Harsdorf.
