Natalie Harsdorf appointed as new Deputy Director General and Managing Director of AFCA

Natalie Harsdorf, who has held the position of Managing Director on an interim basis for the past 13 months, has emerged as the best possible candidate to fill the vacancy permanently.

Appointment as AFCA Deputy Director General and Managing Director

Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs (BMDW), Margarete Schramböck, therefore appointed Natalie Harsdorf as new AFCA Deputy Director General and Managing Director on 1 May 2021.

Natalie Harsdorf will not only continue to be my valued deputy, but will also continue to lead the Austrian Federal Competition Authority through these challenging times. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Natalie for her commitment over the past 13 months, working as interim Managing Director,

Natalie Harsdorf

Educational background and professional experience

Natalie Harsdorf holds a law degree (Dr.) from the University of Vienna and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the College of Europe in Bruges. She has worked for the AFCA since 2009, initially as a case handler and subsequently handling antitrust investigations, representing the Authority before Austrian and European courts of law, and with responsibility for international cooperation. She has been AFCA’s deputy Managing Director since January 2014, and Head of Legal Service since August 2017.

Natalie Harsdorf is a speaker and author of numerous articles and papers on antitrust law. She has also worked for Judge Josef Azizi at the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg and at the Department of European Law in Vienna.
