United Nation Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

UNCTAD, which is governed by its 194 member States, is the United Nations body responsible for dealing with development issues, particularly international trade – the main driver of development.

One concern of the UNCTAD is Competition Policy. The UN Conference on Competition Policy dates back to a resolution of the UN General Assembly in 1980 (resolution 35/36, "United Nations Set ").

A meeting of an intergovernmental group of experts for Competition Law and Competition Policy takes place in Geneva annually. Competition Authorities and selected experts participate at this meeting. This annual conference is intended to improve international cooperation and to promote a worldwide harmonization.

The BWB joined the 6th UN Conference on Competition Policy in Geneva from 8 - 12 November 2010. Director General Dr. Theodor Thanner was one of the five Vice-Presidents and a member of a panel with subject "leniency programs."
